Mr. Manson Drew Case

Manson Drew Case, 81, of Hartsville, SC, passed away peacefully at home on November 2, 2023. Born in Charlotte, NC, on January 13, 1942, he was the son of the late Mitchell King Case and Mamie Gibbs Case. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Gladys Parker Case, and his two daughters, Dr. Caroline Case Pierce (Brendan) of Charlotte, NC, and Jennifer Case Webb (John) of Hartsville, and four grandchildren: Charlie Parker Pierce, Catherine Davis Pierce, Caroline Tunstall Webb, and Ann Parker Webb. His sister, Irene Case Baker of Greenville, SC, also survives him, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Alvin Case and Mitchell Case, and one sister, Coreen Case Finley, all of Charlotte, NC. He attended Harding High School in Charlotte, where he served as Student Body President. In 1966, he earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Army, serving 14 months in Korea, and retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a Captain. He started his professional career at Allied Chemical and Reynolds Metals in Virginia while also continuing his education at the College of William and Mary, where he earned an MBA. He joined Sonoco Products Company in 1974 and was awarded 10 U.S. patents during his employment. After retiring from Sonoco, he founded Case Industries, an engineering and land surveying company. Drew was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis Club, Hartsville Chamber of Commerce, and the oldest living member of the Hartsville Cotillion Club. He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and published two novels. Drew had a lifelong love of learning put into practice through hard work. But his greatest joy was his family, whom he loved dearly. A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 11 o’clock on November 11, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church, 213 West Home Avenue, Hartsville, SC, with The Reverend Ashley Cheek officiating.
