Hartsville, SC Lawrence Norwood Funeral services for Lawrence Claude Norwood, 84, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 4, 2006 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Hopper and th Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins will officiate with burial in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Helping Hands Hospice, 202 S. 2nd St., Hartsville, SC 29550, or Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 56, Lydia, SC 29079. Mr. Norwood died Saturday, September 2, 2006. Born in Darlington Co., SC, he was a son of the late James A. and Ella Byrd Norwood and stepmother Edell N. Norwood. He served two years in the military during World War II with a tour in Japan. He was employed at Sonoco Products Company for more than 40 years before his retirement. He loved Sonoco and all the many employees he met during those years. He was a member of Sonoco’s Old Timers Club, former member of the Lions Club, and the Methodist Men’s Club at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church at Lydia until his health prevented him from attending. He was a life-long member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church and loved his church family as his own family. He especially enjoyed his Sunday school class and its members and had a close relationship with his pastor. He loved his family, church, friends, work, and people in general. He will be missed by each and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Surviving are his wife, Mary Stokes Norwood of Hartsville, SC; sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Heather Norwood, Alan and Debby Norwood, all of Hartsville, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Jimmy Bryant of Hartsville, SC; sisters and brothers-in-law, Eleanor and Marion Bonniott of Darlington, SC, Lou Ellen and John Lewis of Jackson, SC, Mary Yarborough of Hartsville, SC, Betty and Bobby Lee of Hartsville, SC, Claudia and George Braddock of Hartsville, SC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Murry and Ruby Norwood of Hartsville, SC, R. A. Norwood of Darlington, SC, Marvin and Judy Norwood of Darlington, SC, Clarence and Louise Norwood of Florence, SC; grandchildren (spouses), Char P. (Stephen) Brown, Russ (Miriam) Norwood, Tennille Petty, Spencer (Jessica) Petty, Kevin Norwood, Haydon Norwood; great-grandchildren, Gavin Brown, Daniel Norwood. He was preceded in death by his daughter Laura N. Petty.
