Mr. Lawrence J. Martrano

It is with deep sorrow that the Martrano Family announces the death of Mr. Lawrence J. Martrano, 90. Mr. Martrano entered into rest on Thursday, December 8, 2022. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home are caring for the family. A graveside funeral service to honor his life will be held at 11 o'clock on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service. Mr. Martrano was born in Pittsburgh, PA, where he lived most of his life. He was the son of the late Anthony and Amelia Martrano. He lived in the Mount Washington area for many years before moving to Coraopolis, PA. He and his late wife, Dorothy Guenther Martrano, relocated to the Hartsville, SC, area five years ago. He was living at The Legacy of Hartsville when he passed away. Lawrence, better known by others as Larry, was known to be a quiet person who preferred to be by himself most of the time. He was known to be a baker by his grandchildren. After retiring as a police officer for the city of Pittsburgh, PA, he could be found in the kitchen watching TV and baking cookies, cakes, and pies, being assisted by his grandchildren. It was hard to determine who had the most flour on them, the grandchildren or papa. You never went hungry when you stopped to visit. He would whip up some dinner to eat, and there was always a container for cookies to eat after dinner or later as a snack. He also loved his candy. While his wife, Dorothy, was alive, we always thought she was the one who was always partaking in the sweet stuff. However, after her passing, we found out that he also had a sweet tooth with a drive for candy and ice cream. He is survived by his sons, Lawrence (Mary Ann) Martrano Jr. of North Las Vegas, NV, David (April) Martrano of Hartsville, SC, Raymond (Lure) Martrano of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Chris (Sam) Martrano, Amanda (Jeremy) Williams, Samantha (Joshua) Altman, Melinda Martrano, Tiffany (Conner) Martrano, Anthony Martrano; great-grandchildren, Christopher (Jacklyn) Martrano, Jared (Tianah) Martrano, Jaxon Altman, Reese Williams; great-great-grandchildren, Emmett Martrano, Abbigail Martrano, and Elijah Martrano. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Guenther Martrano; and his daughter, Mary Joanne Martrano.
