Mr. John Joseph "Jack" Nixon

Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. John Joseph "Jack" Nixon, 96, who died peacefully on Friday, July 1, 2016, will be held at 10 o'clock in the morning of Friday, July 8, 2016 in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Daniel R. Papineau will officiate with military honors to follow. The family will receive friends following the service. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 363 North Fifth Street, Hartsville, SC 29550, or, Agape Hospice of Hartsville, 115 N. Fifth St., Hartsville, SC 29550. Mr. Nixon was born in Schenectady, NY, a son of the late Eugene and Dorothy Nixon. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hartsville, SC. Jack was a loving Christian, and devoted husband of 65 years to his wife, Betty. He was the greatest dad to Kathy, Carol, and Doug, and their spouses, the best Grandpa to his beloved grandchildren, a precious "Grandpa Jack" to his 11 great-grands: Vera and Kate, Gabe, Kyden, Kai and Aria and Lilly, and Owen, Levi, Titus, and Averie. A fun loving brother to Joe and Grace, and a dear friend to so many folks. Jack never met a stranger - shared so much love, joy, and hugs with everyone he encountered. He lived wholeheartedly in every part of his life. He was a true patriot, having served his great country during WWII as a First Lieutenant and Bombardier in the US Air Force. Jack bravely flew 35 missions during his service. He was awarded an air medal and a Purple Heart and remains his family's #1 Veteran. Jack was born and raised in New York and later resided with family in North Carolina, Georgia, and presently South Carolina, where he has so enjoyed life in Hartsville. Jack will be greatly missed, but his love and joy lives on in the hearts of every life he's touched. Until we meet again, Jack, rest joyfully in the arms of Jesus! And, oh - "War Eagle!" Jack's family lovingly thanks all the precious folks at Agape Hospice and Morningside of Hartsville. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Noll "Betty" Nixon of Hartsville, SC; son, Doug (JoAnne) Nixon of Colorado Springs, CO; daughters, Kathy (Johnny) Walker of Hartsville, SC, Carol (Paul) Lynn of Marietta, GA; 10 grandchildren, Christie Walker of Kansas, Kelley Walker (Chance) Perdue of Tennessee, Shannon Lynn of Georgia, Ryan Lynn of Georgia, Cody (Morning) Lynn of Georgia, Kendall Lynn of Georgia, Andy (Julie) Nixon of Texas, Jake Nixon of Colorado, Alex Nixon of Colorado; 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe (Natalie) Nixon of Northport, NY, sister, Grace (Ozzie) Masoni of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; granddaughter, Katie Nixon.
