It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Mrs. Jewell Winburn Gainey, 81. Mrs. Gainey, the widow of C. G. Gainey, entered into rest on Monday, October 16, 2023. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 2 o'clock on Saturday, October 21, 2023, in First Pentecostal Holiness Church. The Rev. Alvin Rogers and The Rev. Marvin Griggs will officiate with burial to follow in Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to the Alzheimer's Association, Alzheimer's Association P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090, or The Darlington County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1655, Hartsville, SC 29551. Mrs. Gainey was born in Hartsville, SC, on July 4, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Lonnie P. Winburn and the late Ruby Rivers Winburn. Jewell was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister. She loved all of her family dearly and cherished spending time with them. She was a jack-of-all-trades working in the cotton mill, Pick Quick, and as a secretary and detailer at the car sales business, which she ran with her husband, C. G. Gainey. She loved going to the beach and the mountains; camping with the horses in Mount Rogers was her favorite. She loved to travel with the gospel band Shiloh and treated them all as her children. She loved going to concerts, especially to see Chris Young. She was a hard worker and instilled those traits in her own children and grandchildren. She would always make you laugh when you were having a bad day. She was greatly loved and will be missed by many. She is survived by her grandchildren, Kacey Cranford (Dylan Cook), Kelly Summers (Derek); special niece, Ivy Blue; stepdaughters, Barbara Welliver, Carol Camp, Peggy (Ricky) Ingram, and Debbie (Jack) Cobb; son-in-law, Kenny Cranford; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, C. G. Gainey, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Winburn; daughter, Peggy Cranford; sisters, Iris Griggs and Juanita Freeman; brothers, Lonnie Winburn Jr. and Olin Winburn.
