Funeral services for Mr. Jeffrey Lavern Bryant, 72, who entered into rest on Saturday, October 19, 2019, will be held at 11 o'clock on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at First Baptist Church, with The Rev. Dr. Gregory B. Boyd officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Monday, October 21, 2019, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to the Darlington County Humane Society, PO Box 1655, Hartsville, SC 29551 or First Baptist Church, 104 East Home Avenue, Hartsville, SC 29550. Born in Hartsville, SC, he was a son of the late Carey Lavern Bryant and Ruby Clanton Bryant. He worked at Sonoco in Research & Development until his retirement in 2009 due to health concerns. In recent years, Jeff crafted custom bow ties, took violin lessons, loved boating and fishing, and he loved his animals dearly especially "Lady Bug." He served his country in the South Carolina National Guard for several years. He loved Corvettes and in earlier years, he did fiberglass work and painted Corvettes. He loved to share his 'Vette' with his friends and their children. He enjoyed seeing them take it for a ride. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Elmore Bryant of Hartsville, SC; mother-in-law, Mildred T. Elmore of Hartsville, SC; uncle, Peter L. McCall, Jr. of Society Hill, SC; aunt, Bonnie Clanton of Hartsville, SC; sisters-in-law, Denise Elmore (Steve) Schweizer of Hartsville, SC, Deb F. Bryant of Ottawa, OH; niece, Caroline J. (Sam) Nordlund of Hoover, AL; nephews, Loren Stuart "Stu" Jefferies of Denver, CO, Paul Jeffrey Bryant of Traverse City, MI, Matthew Carey Bryant of Murray, KY; great-niece, Annelise Taylor Nordlund of Hoover, AL; great-nephew, Henry Thomas Nordlund of Hoover, AL. He was preceded in death by his brother, Carey Chandler Bryant; aunt, Margaret Bryant McCall; and his father-in-law, V. C. Elmore. He will greatly miss his special friends: Hal Byrd, Terry Hill, Ronnie McDonald, Eddie Thomas, David Truett, Joe Thomas, Bobby Raines, Curt Smith, John Askins, J. R. Gedris, Tom Ennis, Mike Northcutt, Mike Tyner, Gil Holland, Jim King, Steve Jeffords, Jared King, Terry Thomas, and Steve Funderburke.
