Graveside services for Jane Lovelace Timmons will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25th, at Magnolia Cemetery in Hartsville, SC. Jane died on August 20th at Southminster Retirement Community which had been her home for the past 20 years. She had been in declining health since moving to Charlotte. She handled her condition with grace and dignity, never complaining. Born in 1925, she was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Claude Lovelace of Henrietta, NC. Mrs. Timmons was a graduate of Salem College and had a graduate degree in medical social work from Tulane University. She worked at Duke Hospital and later as a social work consultant at Byerly Hospital in Hartsville, SC. Jane met her husband Barney while working at Duke where he was a resident. They married and settled in Hartsville, her husband’s hometown, where they raised their two daughters. Mrs. Timmons was active in the Byerly Hospital Auxiliary, Lakeshore House and Garden Club, Friends of the Library, and the Thursday Study Club. She was also involved with her church, First Baptist Church , where she taught Sunday school and served on various committees. Music brought much joy to her life and she shared her talents with the church, nursing homes, and at neighborhood parties by playing the piano and accordion. She liked to bring along a basket of musical instruments and encouraged everyone to participate much to the chagrin of Martha and Janie who didn’t appreciate their Mom’s talents in their youth. Her hobbies included growing roses, needlepointing, and antiquing. She especially enjoyed a large glass of iced tea and those delicious McBee peaches. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the wonderful staff on Ivy Lane at Southminster for their loving care of our Mom for the past 12 1/2 years. They are dedicated to their profession and we appreciate them all. Mrs. Timmons was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Barney Foreman Timmons, who died in August 2010. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law of Charlotte: Martha T. Fedell (Tom) and Janie T. Levinson (Gary). Sister: Carolyn L. Wheless of White Rock, SC. Grandsons: Ryan Fedell (Lisa), Jason Fedell (Jen), and Rob Fedell and fiancee Jen Galloway. Step-grandsons Jack Levinson (Alison), Stuart (Jennifer), and Eric Levinson.
