It is with deep sorrow that the Jones family announces the death of their beloved father, Mr. James Carl Jones, Jr., 83. Mr. Jones, the widower of Janet Perkins Jones, entered into rest on Friday, March 14, 2025. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 3 o'clock on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, in New Providence Baptist Church. The Rev. Cliff Leonard will officiate, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The United States Marine Corps will render military honors. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mr. Jones was born on Friday, March 28, 1941, in Hartsville, SC. He is the son of the late James Carl Jones, Sr., and the late Marguerite Melton Jones. Carl grew up in Hartsville, South Carolina where he spent his whole life. Right out of high school, Carl enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served his country proudly and was shaped into the strong and courageous man that was loved and respected by many. Carl then went into the workforce, where he had a long career and retired from CP&L. Carl was also a lifelong member of New Providence Baptist Church where he faithfully sang in the choir and served many roles, from Brotherhood Director to Sunday School teacher, just to name a few. Carl was considered a family man and great friend to those who knew him. Carl was a loving son to his mother and father and was always there for his eight brothers and sisters and those he held dear. He fiercely loved his late wife Janet. He cherished the years they spent together and longed for the day he could reunite with her. He loved spending time with his family and always put them first, especially his girls! He was a devoted, caring father and there was nothing he wouldn't do for them, no matter how big or small. He was also a loving grandfather, who was very protective over his grands and great-grands. Carl was a straight shooter, but those that knew him, knew you could always count on him to give sound advice and lend a helping hand. He enjoyed hunting, watching movies, and reading, and he loved being around people. On any given day, you could usually find him uptown, at either Walmart or Winn Buffet. But most of all, Carl loved spending time daily in prayer and Bible study with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom he is with today! Carl will forever be missed, but his love and legacy will live in our hearts until we can be with him again. He is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Atkinson Anderson (Tony King), Alana Jones Moore (Billy), Carla Jones Norris (Andy); brother, Howard Jones; sisters, Kathryn Morrison, Vicki Irick, Celia Mixon, Janna Davis; grandchildren, Blake Harrison (Rebecca), Phillip Byrd (Alexis), Brandon Byrd (Kaitlyn), Billy Moore, Alyssa Moore, Cody Moore (Bree), Brianna Hayes, Jackson Norris, Anderson Norris; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Olivia B., Alex, Kacie, Karsynn, Amya, Ace, Olivia M. In addition to his late wife, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Jones Harrison; brother, David Jones; grandchildren, Wanda Galloway, Sally Turbeville; great-grndchilden, Annalise Byrd, Daylon Moore.
