Mr. James Hubert "Huey" Gainey Jr.

It is with deep sorrow that the Gainey family announces the passing of Mr. James Hubert “Huey” Gainey, Jr., 62, who entered into rest on Monday, December 30, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 2 o’clock on Sunday, January 5, 2025, in The Chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home, with The Rev. Dr. Ken Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be made in his honor to Lakeview Baptist Church, 202 Lakeview Boulevard, Hartsville, SC 29550, or flowers are welcome for the home. Mr. Gainey was born on Friday, July 6, 1962, in Hartsville, SC. He was the son of the late James Hubert Gainey Sr. and the late Maxine Andrews Gainey. Huey was a man who truly lived life to the fullest. A lifelong NASCAR enthusiast, he never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite drivers. He was also an avid South Carolina Gamecocks fan, proudly wearing garnet and black and supporting his team through every season. He had a deep passion for collecting guns and knives, each piece holding a special story and significance. Music and dancing brought him immense joy, and he had a natural talent for making people laugh. His infectious smile and warm heart lit up every room he entered, and his presence was a source of comfort and happiness to all who knew him. Professionally, Huey dedicated 45 years to the meat market industry, where his hard work, dedication, and expertise earned him the title of Meat Market Manager in his later years. He took great pride in his work, always ensuring his customers were well served and satisfied. Above all, Huey loved his family and friends deeply, and his memory will live on in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his loving wife, Nira Barfield Gainey; son, Hayden Carter; daughters, Bailee Alysha Gainey, Kristen Gainey, Brooke (Justin) Edwards; brother, Lee (Melisa) Barfield; sisters, Karen (Ron Acord) Yarborough, Vicky (Tim) Moore; grandchildren, Carter Walters, Avery Walters, and Olivia Kate Edwards; father-in-law, George Blackwell, who was like a father to him. A few also very near and dear to his heart include Dylan and Haylee Barfield, Britni Barfield, Taylor and Alex Poovey, and Carlee Moore. Huey leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication. His family finds comfort in knowing his spirit will continue to shine brightly in their lives. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
