Mr. Jack Julian Segars

It is with deep sorrow that Mrs. Kay Gainey Segars and her family announce the death of her beloved husband, Mr. Jack Julian Segars, 89. Mr. Segars entered into rest on Friday, October 6, 2023. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 1 o'clock on Monday, October 9, 2023, in West Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Kevin Walters will officiate with burial to follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service, and at other times on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the residence, 312 Deerwood Drive, Hartsville, SC. In addition to flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to West Hartsville Baptist Church, 1003 W. Carolina Avenue, Hartsville, SC 29550. Jack Julian Segars died Friday, October 6, 2023, at the age of 89. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, which he shared with his family and friends. Jack never met a stranger and loved telling stories any chance he got. He was born in Hartsville, SC, in 1934 to Leila and Julian Segars. He attended Hartsville High School, where he played basketball. After graduation, he began working at CSX Railroad, where he continued to work for 44 years until his retirement. Jack was married to Leslie Kay Gainey Segars, and together, they had three daughters, Karen Hodge, Chris Howle, and Jackie Haithcock. He was very proud of his daughters as well as his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister, nephew, great-nephews, and niece. He loved playing golf, watching old westerns, gardening, watching the South Carolina Gamecocks play any sport, and attending West Hartsville Baptist Church, where he was a member. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Kay; daughters, Karen Hodge (David) of Bluff City, TN, and Chris Howle (Robert) of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Chad Smith (Alice) of Kingsport, TN, Leslie Howle Kerrigan, (Dan) of Greenville, SC, Ashley Howle Denton, (Mose) of Camden, SC, Christopher Hodge (Crystal) of Johnson City, TN; great-grandchildren, Julian Smith, Caroline Smith, Jack Kerrigan, Eli Kerrigan, McLean Denton, Ella Denton, Tyler Hodge, Kaylyn Hodge, and Riley Hodge. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Shirley Tapp, of Columbia, SC, and her son, Woody Woodham (Cindy) of Chapin, SC, along with two great-nephews and one great-niece. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jackie Haithcock, and grandson, Jacob Haithcock.
