Mr. Howard "Pete" Leon Moree

It is with deep sorrow that the Moree/Marshall family announces the death of Mr. Howard “Pete” Leon Moree, 67. Mr. Moree entered into rest on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home are caring for the family. The family will receive friends each evening after 5 o'clock at the home of Betty Dietz, 821 Rolling Hills Road, Hartsville, SC 29550. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 2 o’clock on Sunday, June 30th, 2024, in The Chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The Rev. William Camp III will officiate with burial to follow in Piney Plain Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Mr. Moree was born on September 7, 1956, in Hartsville, SC. He was the son of the late Howard Lee Moree Sr. and the late Gene Griggs. Growing up in Hartsville, he attended North Hartsville Elementary School and went on to graduate from Hartsville Sr. High School. After graduating high school, he went on to work at Sara Lee Hosiery until he retired. Fishing was one of his favorite hobbies, and he enjoyed taking his son Anthony and nephews camping and fishing. A lover of sports, he was a devoted fan of the Hartsville Red Foxes and rarely missed listening to their games on the radio on Friday nights. He also enjoyed watching baseball, and his favorite team to support was the Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed watching professional wrestling and going to matches. If freshly made biscuits were around, you could always count on him to steal one hot off the pan, as he was known lovingly by his family as the biscuit thief. In later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He never missed an opportunity to let them all know that they were “his heart.” His infectious laugh will be missed by everyone who knew him. Known for his sweet and gentle nature, he always had a smile on his face. Mr. Moree attended Piney Plain Free Will Baptist Church and, after moving to Bishopville, started attending New Life Worship Center. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Susan Moree; son, Anthony Moree; daughter, Sherry (Chris) Kirby; stepdaughter, Jorie Mitchell; stepson, Michael Mitchell; three granddaughters, Katelon Smith, Addie Johnson, and Emily Weatherford; two step-granddaughters, Madison Mitchell and Jaylee Beasley; step-grandson, Michael Mitchell; brothers, W.E. Marshall (Shawn), Ritchie Marshall; sisters, Betty Moree (Don) Dietz, Sandra (Rob) Ortiz, Sharon (Allan) Wilkes; nieces, Tiffany Dietz, Nikki Marshall, Morgan Marshall, Taylor Marshall, Zoey Hancock, Prudence Sanders, Amy Myers (Buddy), Aniyah Myers; nephews, Buddy Thompson, Justin Thompson, Alex Marshall, Zach Marshall, Ethan Marshall, Dietz Mills, Owen Marshall, and Ashton Myers; lifelong friend/brothers, Wesley McLaughlin and Mark McDuffie. He is preceded in death by his nephew, Shane Marshall; stepfather, William Marshall; maternal and paternal grandparents.
