It is with deep sorrow that the Andrews family announces the death of their beloved father, Mr. Heyward M. "Hot Shot" Andrews, Jr., 89. Heyward went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 29, 2024. He was a lifelong member of Savannah Advent Christian Church. Heyward loved the Lord with all his heart and believed that when you pass away, you are asleep in paradise until judgment day. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 4 o'clock on Friday, May 31, 2024, in Savannah Advent Christian Church. The Rev. John Gallagher and The Rev. Matthew Andrews will officiate, with burial to follow in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Savannah Advent Christian Church, 1948 Ashland-Stokes Bridge Road, Bishopville, SC 29010. Mr. Andrews was born on September 30, 1934, in Kelleytown, SC. He was the son of the late Heyward M. Andrews, Sr., and the late Zuleen Smith Andrews. After graduating from Hartsville High School in 1952, he took a job at Ron's Shoe Store and went to live with his Aunt and Uncle, Ruby and Gus Grantham. They loved him like he was their son, and he loved them like they were his parents. In November 1953, Heyward went to work at Hartsville Print and Dye Works. He was employed there for ten years and held several different positions. While he held the position of cost accounting, he attended Carolina College of Commerce in Florence, SC, majoring in accounting. He also served as Time Study director, Personnel Director, Purchasing Agent, and Safety Manager. In 1963, Heyward resigned to go into business for himself. Heyward and Billy Lowe purchased 170 acres of land on the Darlington Highway. They took 90 acres and developed Tremont Subdivision. Heyward and his brother Charles began farming and started Andrews Auto Sales, Inc. In 1968, Heyward and Charles purchased 24 acres of land on Kelleytown-Clyde Road and developed it into a subdivision. He is survived by his daughters by marriage, Joye S. Davis (Kirk) and Karen S. Dorriety (Will); grandsons, Cliff Muckenfuss (MaryAnn), Kenworth Segars, Nick Davis (Whitney), and Zack Davis; sister, Patsy A. Yearty; and special friend, Belvia Wint; nephews, Chuck Andrews (Kay), Richie Gainey (Deanna), and Dale Gainey; nieces, Karen Andrews Greene (Mark), and Tanya Yearty Billingsley (Steve). In addition to his parents and his late wife, Kathryn Skinner Andrews, he was preceded in death by his son by marriage, Harley Segars; brother, Charles E. Andrews, Sr.; sister, Alice Gainey.
