Hattie Myers

Hattie Myers, a former resident of Sligo and Clarion, PA, and wife of the late Vernon Myers, died February 5, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with a visitation following the service. The Rev. Tony Medlin will officiate. Funeral services will also be held in Sligo, PA at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2005 at the Monroe Chapel United Methodist Church with a visitation Friday from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. at the Varner Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Belloit and Mrs. Myers’ grandson, Rev. Christopher Myers, will officiate with burial in Sligo Cemetery. Hattie was born in Sandy Hollow, PA on June 10, 1917 a daughter of the late Chester Guy and Cecil Reddick Best. Hattie had moved to an assistive living facility in Hartsville, SC five years ago to live close to her son and daughter-in-law, Vern and Nancy. Prior to moving to South Carolina, Mrs. Myers was a member of the Monroe Chapel United Methodist Church, Sligo, PA and was an active member of the United Methodist Women. Hattie worked for several years as a shoe sales associate at local retail stores. Her most notable qualities were her fierce loyalty to all of her family and friends. ‘Mother’ was a job she took seriously. Even till the final days, Mom had concerns that no one missed a meal or had a good night’s sleep. But her real joy later in life as evident by the beaming smiles, was her great grand kids. Friends and family will remember her as an energetic, and sometimes, feisty person that had a clean house – always. Neighbors and family reaped the benefits of her garden preservation efforts - a task she performed faithfully with her sisters and brothers. Hattie was the mother of Vern (Nancy)Myers of Hartsville, SC, Janet (Robert) Nadaskay of Blue Point, NY; grandmother of Christopher (Stacy) Myers of River Falls, WI, Elizabeth (Stacy) Myers of Tulsa, OK, Jason Nadaskay of New Paltz, NY, Amy Nadaskay of NY/Australia, Michelle Wrona of Hartsville, SC, Angie (Derek) Strickler of Manitou Springs, CO; great grandma Hattie of Andy, Matt, Katy, Jake, Dylan, Connor, Molly, Emma; sister of Chester Guy Best, Jr., Kathryn (Best) Shook, Valjean (Best) Shook, Eugene Best. The family extends sincere thanks for the loving care and support from the Hartsville community, and especially to Elizabeth, Rose, and Tina for all the hand holding, hugs, and comfort care during the past months.
