Funeral services for Mrs. Gloria Jean Hodges Outlaw, 73, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Morton Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. John Parks will officiate with burial to follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside and other times at the residence. Those attending should wear a mask and practice social distancing. Mrs. Outlaw entered into rest on Sunday, February 28, 2021. She was born on September 15, 1947, to James B. and Jewel Smith Hodges in Hartsville, SC. In her baby book, her mother wrote – the sweetest little bundle of joy ever to come from heaven. On Sunday, she returned to heaven and her heavenly father. She was an amazing daughter, granddaughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and mother-in-law. Jean was a strong nurturing Christian lady. She cared for others all of her life beginning with her baby sister at the age of 10. She cared for her parents, sisters, children, and grandchildren with an awesome strength and love. The great-grandson was the newest family member and she wanted to hold and care for him even when she was unable to do so. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she was never happier than when spending time with them. She always cared for others and was there for those that no one else seemed to love. Providing care for them through her work at Crippled Children’s Hospital and the Saleeby Center. Her door was always open to those in her family, neighborhood and friends. You could always depend on her for love, support, something to eat, an ear to listen and some free advice. Most of all, she loved her Lord and Savior. She was a prayer warrior. When she said I’ll pray for you, these were serious words. She spent hours reading her Bible and praying for others. She was the most compassionate, tender-hearted, and loving friend to all. Most of all she always made us laugh and brought great joy to our lives with her unique expressions and quick-witted responses. We are left with precious memories. She loved to read, sew and watch the news. She made beautiful hand embroidered and stitched quilts, pillowcases, and dish towels. Her hands were always busy, caring for others, cleaning, sewing, and working in her yards. She loved to plant flowers and watch them grow. She nurtured them just like she did everyone else. Surviving to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 57 years, Woodrow; two sons, Brad (Sheila) Outlaw and Curtiss (Shannon) Outlaw; four amazing grandchildren, Sydney (Matt) Coley, Jamie (Allyson) Outlaw, Zachary Outlaw, and Meridith Outlaw; one great-grandson, John Cypress Coley; sister, Teresa Hodges; special friend, David Gray; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Faye Hodges Scruggs and Sue Hodges Shepherd, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins whom she loved dearly.
