Mrs. Geraldine "Geri" Jarrott

We fondly remember the life of Mrs. Geraldine "Geri" Jarrott, who peacefully passed away on Monday, July 24th, 2023. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 o’clock on Friday, July 28, 2023, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Hartsville, SC, with The Rev. William D. “Bill” Oldland officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the YMCA of the Upper Pee Dee, 111 East Carolina Avenue, Hartsville, SC 29550. The family is in the care of The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Geri was born on November 12, 1934, to the late Harry Gudger Mull and Othalia Silver Mull. She considered Mars Hill, NC, to be her home. At 18 years old, she boarded a bus to Charlotte, NC, with five dollars in her pocket, where she got a job as a telephone operator. Her professional journey eventually led her to Queensboro Steel in Wilmington, NC. Geri's steel career was nothing short of remarkable as a woman in a male-dominated field. Her determination, resilience, and unwavering dedication allowed her to thrive and excel as computers revolutionized the way business was conducted. As her role in the steel industry grew, she found a new passion in sales, earning numerous awards and accolades. After making significant contributions to Queensboro Steel, Geri later found herself at Chatham Steel in Durham, NC, where she continued to make her mark until she retired. Above all else, Geri was a devoted and loving mother to her four boys, the true passion of her life. Her unwavering commitment to her family remained her driving force. She poured boundless love and energy into her sons and worked to ensure they had every opportunity to thrive and grow. As a devoted mother, she was a constant presence in their lives. She attended every little league baseball and football game, cheering them on from the sidelines. Beyond her role as a nurturing mother, Geri was also a loyal and devoted friend. Her adventurous spirit made her the perfect companion. Geri's spirit of community service was evident through her active roles in the Civitan Clubs of Durham, NC, and Hartsville, SC. From volunteering at a local high school and Duke University football games to being an engaged member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, she selflessly devoted herself to giving back to her community. Her dedication to both faith and service left a legacy of compassion and love, touching the hearts of many and inspiring her family to follow in her footsteps. The beach held a special place in her heart, with the North Carolina coast being her beloved retreat. Evidence of that fondness could be found all over her home. In her leisure time, Geri found solace and joy in various crafts, including knitting, sewing, cross-stitching, and crocheting. Among her most cherished memories was square dancing with her late husband, Joe. She made a mean rhubarb pie and could stink up a house cooking homemade sauerkraut. Her life was filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable experiences treasured by her family and her friends (aka her partners in crime). Surviving are her four children, Stuart, Scott (Harriet), Bill, and Donald (Melissa); seven grandchildren, Marsha King, Fearn Gupton, Scott (Kayla) Gupton Jr., Ben (Carrie) Gupton, Joseph Brus, Joey Johnson, and Colin Brus. Mrs. Jarrott has two great-grandchildren, Roman (Samantha) Waln, Pierce Waln, and one great-great-grandchild, Lenox Waln. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Jarrott.
