It is with deep sorrow that the Freeman family announces the death of Mr. Franklin D. "Buddy" Freeman, Sr., 75. Mr. Freeman entered into rest on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Grover Johnson and the Rev. Brad Griese will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Born in Hartsville, SC, he was the son of the late Marion T. Freeman and the late Sarah Hicks Freeman. His life was one of love, guidance, and unwavering devotion to his family. His days were filled with acts of care and support for his family. He was a constant beacon of warmth and compassion for his family and friends throughout his life. Whether it was coaching youth football, serving on a Navy ship, or simply offering a listening ear to his family, Frankie was the epitome of love and guidance. A hardworking and dedicated provider, he instilled in his children the values of perseverance, integrity, and the importance of family bonds. His legacy extends beyond material comforts; it resides in the lasting memories of shared moments and the enduring impact of his guidance and love. Frankie found enjoyment in simple pleasures. He was an avid golfer, poker player, and sports fan, but most of all he was a family man. He would spend his evenings calling his long list of siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends just to say hello. He will be remembered for the love he showered upon his family and friends, the wisdom he shared with anyone who would listen, and the profound impact he had on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Franke D. Freeman, Jr., Tonda Freeman, Tasha Freeman; grandchildren, Justin Tyler Freeman (Ashley), Conner Nicole Freeman, Courtney F. Ghoens (Jessie), Parker Strickland; great-grandchildren, Weslynn Michelle Howle, Ezra Ward Ghoens; sisters, Vivian Johnson (William), Shirley Gainey (Larry); brother, Freddie Freeman (Ginger); numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Walters Freeman; sisters, Virginia Parker, Margaret Dixon, Joyce Talbert.
