It is with deep sorrow that Mrs. Virginia McLaurin "Ginger" Manning and her family announce the death of her beloved husband, Mr. Frank Cameron Manning Jr., 79. Mr. Manning died on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 2 o'clock on Sunday, December 17, 2023, in St. Luke United Methodist Church, with The Rev. Henry M. "Todd" Davis IV officiating. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. The burial will be held at 11 o'clock on Monday, December 18, 2023, in Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2006 Hebron Dunbar Road, Clio, SC 29525. Born on October 20, 1944, in Bennettsville, South Carolina, he was the only child of the late Frank Cameron and Gertrude Parham Manning. Mr. Manning was proud to call Clio, South Carolina, his home. He graduated from Clio High School in 1962, one of eleven students in his class. He enjoyed all sports and was an outstanding athlete. For the rest of his life, he maintained close friendships with the “Clio Boys.” As a young man, he spent his summers at the Manning House, a boarding house owned and operated by his family in Cherry Grove, South Carolina. He and his cousins worked and played there, forming strong bonds and special memories that would last a lifetime. He attended Clemson University and graduated in 1966 with a bachelor of science degree in textile science. As a student at Clemson, he held various jobs. He was also involved in extracurricular activities. He served on the board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, he was elected to the High Court by the student body, and he was a proud brother of the Numeral Society. Immediately following his final college exam, he flew to basic training for the United States Air Force, missing his own graduation. The Vietnam War was raging. Later, he served his country in the Air National Guard – U.S. Air Force, stationed at McEntire Air Force Base in Richland County, South Carolina. In 1970, Mr. Manning married Virginia “Ginger” McLaurin in her hometown of Dillon, South Carolina. Soon, they moved to Hartsville, South Carolina, where he was employed by Sonoco Products Company as an industrial engineer for 39 years. He was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church for 50 years. He served his church in many capacities and on various committees, including the board of trustees. Mr. Manning was a family man. His devotion to his wife and three children – Missy, Frank, and Laurin – was steadfast. Every Saturday was “Go Everywhere with Daddy” day. He not only loved his children, but he also enjoyed them. He was an intentional man who impressed upon his children from a very young age the importance of “keeping your priorities in order” – God, country, and family. Mr. Manning is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia McLaurin “Ginger” Manning of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Virginia “Missy” Manning and William Neal “Billy” Coulter of Sumter; son and daughter-in-law Frank Cameron III and Sallie McAmish Manning of Columbia; daughter and son-in-law Edwin Laverne “Eddie” and Laurin Parham Manning Gandy of Florence; beloved cousin Robert Manning Christopher (Page) and a large extended family. He was “Granddaddy” to seven grandchildren: William Neal Coulter, Jr.; Jack Cameron Coulter; Bess McKiever Manning; Frank Cameron Manning, IV; Thomas Hugh Manning; Richard Charles Coulter; and Albert Holloway Manning. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. T. James “Jimmy” Bell and Dr. Paul T. Davis and to the staff of Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center and MUSC University Hospital for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to a charity of your choice.
