After a long illness, Elaine Luther Huggins passed away on November 8, 2023, in Marietta, GA, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 22, 1947, in Hartsville, SC, to Mary Wheeler and Charles Marvin Luther, Sr. Elaine grew up involved in many school activities and was the 1957 South Carolina NBTA Juvenile State Champion for baton twirling. Elaine was a member of the Hartsville High School Red Regime as a majorette and performed in the 1965 Orange Bowl. After graduating from Hartsville High School, Elaine received a business degree from Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC. She then married Thomas Woodrow Huggins, Jr. in 1967, and they were blessed with two wonderful children. The family relocated frequently as Tommy's career advanced with Sonoco Products Company, including moves to Henderson, KY, Burlington, NC, Marietta, GA, Orange Park, FL and Andalusia, AL. Elaine worked hard to create a loving home in each new place and formed lasting friendships along the way. Elaine held a number of business positions before retiring from a career in public school administration. She was a dedicated member of The Episcopal Church, serving as Senior Warden for St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Andalusia, AL, and contributing her time to the Episcopal Church Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast. Elaine was also an active member of St. James Episcopal Church in Marietta, GA while serving on their flower guild. Elaine was committed to lifelong learning and enjoyed continuing educational opportunities at nearby colleges and universities. She pursued many hobbies and interests, including gardening, horticulture, reading, and family genealogy. However, the most important part of Elaine's life was caring for her immediate and extended family. She treasured her two children and four grandchildren more than anything and was involved in all aspects of their lives. Elaine was steadfast, strong, and loving and would do anything for her family and friends. Elaine is survived by her children: son Thomas Woodrow Huggins, III, and his wife Lori Ann, and their two children Madeline Marie and Thomas Woodrow Huggins, IV; and daughter Mary Amanda and her husband Allen Emory King, and their two children Mary Camille and Charles Emory. Also surviving are Elaine's brother Charles M. Luther, Jr. and his wife Kathryn, as well as brother-in-law William Kenneth Huggins. She will be remembered by her many special nieces, nephews, and cousins, as she loved all of them. Elaine's husband, Tommy Huggins, predeceased her on April 13, 2015. The funeral service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 161 Church Street, Marietta, GA, at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 17, 2023. Graveside interment will take place in Hartsville, SC, at Magnolia Cemetery on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. James Episcopal Church, 161 Church Street, Marietta, GA 30060.
