Mr. Edward S. Gainey

It is with deep sorrow that the Gainey family announces the death of Mr. Edward S. Gainey, 64. Mr. Gainey entered into rest on Thursday, January 26, 2023. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. He graduated from Hartsville High in 1976, and then went to Florence-Darlington Technical College, where he received a degree in engineering. He moved to Raleigh, NC, where he met his former wife before having his two daughters. He loved traveling the world for his job and even had the opportunity to move his family to Denmark, which was later decided against. He loved his daughters and loved his grandbaby more than anything. He was the best dad anyone could ask for. His personality and caring nature, along with his smile, could light up an entire room. Some memories of him that I'm very fond of are going on many trips with him. The beach trips and the amusement park trips where he most definitely got on the rides with us. We can't say if he enjoyed them or not, but the memory of him getting on them for us was one in a million. The times when he knew he could fix it himself instead of paying for someone to fix it. One of the times when he and Jordan were getting tree limbs cut down in the front yard, and dad kept putting the ladder on the limb they were trying to cut. Jordan, not wanting to climb up with death staring him in the face, dad made sure to show him it wasn't impossible, which may or may not have been something OSHA would disapprove of. Meeting his grandson for the first time. Knowing we were pregnant, you could see the joy the closer it came to his due date. He was our Christmas Eve joy, and one of the best Christmas presents we could have ever given him. He loved his boy with everything he could. His hobbies were taking things apart and putting them back together just so he could see if he could accomplish it or not. He enjoyed playing golf but hasn't played it in years. He loved crossword puzzles that he did with his daughters and usually always had a crossword puzzle with him on vacation. Edward leaves behind his two daughters, Taylor Gainey, and Kaitlyn Gainey, along with her husband, Jordan Watkins (Big Boy), and their son, Silas Watkins.
