It is with deep sorrow that the Beck family announces the death of Mr. Edward William Beck, 87. Mr. Beck, the widower of Dorothy Beatrice Strickland Beck, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service with Military Honors will be held at 11 o'clock on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at North Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Ladell Humphries will officiate with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to: The Bringing Home Baby Sullivan Adoption Fund. Mr. Beck was so excited about becoming a great-grandfather and wanted a daily update on the adoption progress. Memorial donations can be sent to Morgan Beck Sullivan, 1416 Gordon Drive, Hartsville, SC. Mr. Beck was a member of North Hartsville Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, usher and the Fitzer Sunday School Class teacher for many years. He served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in the Philippines during the Korean Conflict. He was employed in the construction industry and worked for Logan Construction Company where he served as Vice-President of Butler Building Products as Project Manager and salesman. Mr. Beck retired from Dempsey Construction Company in 1999 as a Project Manager and salesman. Mr. Beck was an avid woodworker and a member of the Hartsville Woodworkers Club where he had served as President. Mr. Beck and his son, Eddie Jr., shared a love of farming together and spend many years in the row cropping and cattle business on a part-time basis. Before his health declined, Mr. Beck loved to fish. He and his wife loved to vacation in the mountains and also travel to Minnesota, where he was from. Mr. Beck loved his family, his friends, and especially his cat, Lily B. He enjoyed Tuesday outings with his daughter-in-law, Vickie. Mr. Beck was born in Hawley, MN and was the son of the late William Beck and Edith Wingate Beck. He is survived by his son, Edward W. "Eddie" (Vickie) Beck Jr. of Hartsville, SC; sister, Mary Ann Beck (Walt) Schneidermann of Ulen, MN; grandchildren, Morgan Beck (John) Sullivan of Hartsville, SC, Cody Beck Morris of Douglasville, GA, Taylor and Jacob Parker of Cheraw, SC; son-in-law, Dennis Parker of Cheraw, SC; niece, Carolyn (Roderick) Cyr of Loretto, MN; nephew, David (Krista) Schneidermann; special cousin, George Haberle of Hawley, MN. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Penelope "Penny" Beck Parker of Cheraw, SC, Patricia "Patty" Beck (Daniel) Morris of Aiken, SC; sister, Irene Beck. The family would like to recognize Barry Jolly, Gene Clifton, and William Kirven for their loyal friendship. The family would also like to recognize his special sitters, Christian Waits and Tammy Stengel who provided excellent care.
