Funeral services for Doris Barnes Dickinson , 86, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church, Florence, SC. The Rev. Mike Mills and the Rev. W. L. Collins will officiate with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home, Hartsville, SC and also from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. Mrs. Dickinson died peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2013. Born in Selmer, TN, she was a daughter of the late Finis Buford and Ruth Mae Jones Barnes. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Clay Dickinson. Doris attended UT-Martin and graduated from UT-Knoxville with a degree in Home Economics & Sciences. She taught Home Economics before her children were born and later returned to teaching 6th grade at Timrod Elementary School. Doris and Clay moved to Florence in 1960 with DuPont. They were members of Calvary Baptist Church since moving to Florence and were also founding members of Quinby Baptist Church. Doris loved the Lord. She faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher for over 35 years. She and Clay also taught the Bible to young married couples at Calvary Baptist Church. Through the years, Doris was involved in Vacation Bible School, PTA, voting poles, and various Bible studies. She was a member of the Quinby Garden Club, Quinby Coffee Club, and a dinner bridge club. Surviving are her daughter, Linda (Trailor) Lewis of Hartsville, SC; sons, Robert (Stacey) Dickinson of Blythewood, SC, John Barnes Dickinson; brother, William "Bill" (Amma) Barnes of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Brett (Julie) Lewis, Amy (Nathan) Cranford, Sunday (Jason) Richardson, Corey Dickinson, Logan Dickinson, Clay Dickinson; great-grandchildren, Traidy Lewis, Aubrey Cranford, Anna Scott Richardson, Ella Richardson, Wryn Richardson. The family would like to thank Dr. Walter Evans and Ms. Florine Sheepe for their years of care, the staff of Agape Hospice of Hartsville, the staff of McLeod Hospice, and especially the loving staff of Morningside of Hartsville.
