It is with deep sorrow that the Crawford family announces the death of their beloved mother, Mrs. Deborah Morgan Crawford, 88. Mrs. Crawford, the widow of John Thornton Crawford Sr., entered into rest on Thursday, March 7, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 2 o'clock on Sunday, March 10, 2024, in The Chapel of First Baptist Church, with The Rev. Dr. Gregory B. Boyd and The Rev. Dr. Kevin Walters officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Our Time, c/o Melissa Johnson, 237 Creek Drive, Garner, NC 27529, or the Darlington County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1655, Hartsville, SC 29551. Mrs. Crawford was born on June 12, 1935, in Hartsville, SC. She was the daughter of the late W. Howard Morgan Jr. and the late Mary Deborah Chambers Morgan. Mrs. Crawford worked in the medical field and travel profession. She was an avid gardener and was proud to have earned the distinct title of "Master Gardner." She was a sharp bridge player and kept busy volunteering with the American Red Cross during blood drives and as a poll worker during election seasons. She also devoted her time to the Darlington County Humane Society Retail Store. Beautiful inside and out, Mrs. Crawford lived life to the fullest and thoroughly enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her friends and family. She was a huge fan of the Clemson Tigers and the South Carolina coast. She loved the sun, sand, and salty air of the beach and especially enjoyed dancing the Shag. She has the distinguished honor of being named a "Living Legend" and inductee into the Shaggers Hall of Fame. Her love of beach music and the Shag was evident when you watched her vibrant smile on the dance floor. She is survived by her sons, William Henry "Bill" (Dawn) Crawford and John Thornton Crawford Jr.; daughters, Jeannie (Mitchell) Gainey and Julia Margaret Crawford; brother, Dr. Woody (Sharon) Morgan; sister, Gail Morgan (Maxie) Cantley; grandchildren, Mary Deborah Gainey, Mitchell Lee Gainey, Morgan Crawford (Stephen) Flowers, William Crawford; and her special friend, "Black Cat."
