Mr. David P. Lanier

It is with deep sorrow that the Lanier family announces the death of their dear son, David. David Patrick Lanier, 52, son of Lee and Margaret Lanier, died on August 22, 2023, after suffering from the effects of a traumatic brain injury due to a bicycle accident 12 years ago. David has been associated with the Lou Scott Center since an early age and has been a resident of the Bowen House at the Center for his latter years. David loved the Lord with all his heart and spent many years serving the children of First Baptist Church, where he was a dedicated member for 44 years. David also loved bicycle riding, singing to the music of Bill Gaither, and serving the Forest Hills neighborhood. One of his all-time favorite things was spending time at Camp Joy each summer with his best friend, Matt Johnson. He valued his friends and was beloved by many who had the privilege of knowing him. Being David’s friend meant you had a friend for life. He and his sweet smile will truly be missed. David was born in Hartsville, SC, on June 27, 1971. Other than his parents, David is survived by his brother Greg and his children, Anna Chase, Charlotte, and Sam of Dallas, Texas; sister, Meredith Lanier Craddock (Ryan) of Buies Creek, NC; aunt, Mary Anne Matthews, Mt. Pleasant, SC; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Jessie Miller and his faithful dog Molly. A celebration to honor his life will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in St. Luke United Methodist Church of Hartsville, SC with his sister Meredith Craddock and the Reverend Todd Davis officiating. The family will receive friends anytime at their home at 314 Lyndale Drive, Hartsville, SC and immediately following the service on Friday. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home are serving the family. A special thank you to the entire staff at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC who cared for David and his family during his last days with a great amount of love, kindness and respect.
