Mr. Danny Lee Weaver

It is with deep sorrow that the Weaver family announces the death of Mr. Danny Lee Weaver, 77. Mr. Weaver entered into rest on Saturday, November 2, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 3 o'clock on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in Lakeview Baptist Church, with The Rev. Ken Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be made in his honor to the Darlington County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1655, Hartsville, SC 29551, or Lakeview Baptist Church, 202 Lakeview Blvd., Hartsville, SC 29550. Danny was born on Tuesday, January 28, 1947, in Hartsville, SC. He is the son of the late Troy Edward Weaver and the late Georgia Watt Weaver. He had a lot of friends from all walks of life. In 1965, Danny set records for the high and low hurdles at Hartsville High School that still stood as of 2002. Danny loved to run. Patty would drop him off here in Hartsville, and he would run to Bishopville to Patty’s parents’ home. He lettered in football and basketball in 1966, and he received an athletic scholarship from Pembroke College in North Carolina. After college, he returned to Hartsville and became manager of W. M. Timberlake Oil Company. He joined the National Guard in 1969, retiring in 1989. In 1972, he began working with CP&L as a Radiation Control and Test Technician. Danny retired from the South Carolina National Guard. In 1989, Danny developed a brain tumor that ruptured, and he was in a coma for over six weeks. During this difficult time, he lost 80 of his 200 pounds, 50% of his sight, the ability to talk and walk. No one thought Danny would recover, but Danny was a fighter, and here we are 35 years later. Although he never recovered 100%, Danny never let that stop him from doing anything, especially his family and socializing. Because of Danny’s love for people and life itself, Danny was invited to join the S. C. Brain Injury Task Force in 1993 and eventually became a board member of the S. C. Brain Injury Leadership Council. Danny had a genuine compassion for his brothers and sisters with physical disabilities. Danny founded the Hartsville Brain Injury Support Group in 2001. There are many members from counties such as Hartsville, Sumter, Lamar, Kershaw, Florence, and Westfield. He also attended the National Independent Living Council in Washington and the National Medicare/Medicaid Conference in Baltimore, MD. Danny founded the Head and Spinal Cord Injury Group and was a member of the following: the Retired National Guard Group, the Breakfast Booster Club, Lakeview Baptist Church, and the Jaycees. Danny was also a member of the Gamecock fan club, as he was an avid USC and Hartsville football fan. Although Danny enjoyed his social time at places such as Sam Kendell’s, J Micheal’s, and Vintage during happy hour with his friends, his family was his main focus. The love he had for his grandchildren was beyond anything else. He enjoyed birthdays, graduations, and as many ballgames as possible for his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Patricia Black "Patty" Weaver; daughter, Kelli Leigh Weaver of Hartsville, SC; grandsons, Cooper Ellis Bonds of Ridgeland, SC, and McKrea Weaver Ard (Grayson) of Columbia, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Georgia Watt Weaver and Troy Edward Weaver.
