Mr. Clifford Dean Lane

It is with deep sorrow that Mrs. Robin Tyner Lane announces the death of her beloved husband, Mr. Clifford Dean Lane, 82. Mr. Lane entered into rest on Thursday, March 16, 2023. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A graveside funeral service to honor his life will be held at 3:30 pm on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Magnolia Cemetery, with The Rev. Tim Rogers and The Rev. Will Altman officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or Trinity United Methodist Church, 126 Pearl Street, Darlington, SC 29532. Mr. Lane was born in Rutherfordton, NC, on January 13, 1941. He was the son of the late Albert Lane and the late Myrtle Hill Lane. Clifford Dean Lane was born and raised on the farms of North Carolina. This beginning led to a lifelong love for nature and animals. He would recount fondly his adventures with his dog and how they were inseparable growing up. He also spent years of his life raising horses and was an avid wolf lover. Cliff had many identities, but the strongest were husband, father, grandfather, entrepreneur, student, writer, and golfer. He was passionate about literature, science, philosophy, and investing. His favorite author was Mark Twain, he marveled over Albert Einstein, and devoured the works of Plato, Socrates, Kant, and the like. He spent the second half of his life founding and growing Lane & McLaughlin Manufacturing with his wife, Robin Lane, and was deeply proud of the hard work that he and Robin put into making the company a success. He was a man of few words, but when he did speak, it was guaranteed to be thoughtful. He was best known for telling a funny joke, grilling a perfect steak, and his steady and consistent golf game. He was adored by his family and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Robin Tyner Lane; daughters, Jordan L. Lane, and Ashley B. Lane (Shannon); sons, Alan D. Lane (Susan), and Barry C. Lane; sisters, Mavis L. Wheeler (Clark), and Helen Koone; grandchildren, Sara L. Netherton (Travis), Will Lane, Ellie Lane, and Lane T. DeMars.
