It is with deep sorrow that the Stokes family announces the death of Mr. Billy McArthur Stokes, 79. Mr. Stokes entered into rest on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, with his loving wife by his side. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are serving the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 12 o'clock on Saturday, November 12, 2022, in The Chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The Rev. Eddie Fleming will officiate with burial to follow in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Billy was born September 14, 1943, to John Stokes and Eunice Parnell Stokes; he grew up in a close-knit family. He was married and spent 57 years with the love of his life, Vivian Capell Stokes. Together they built a wonderful life. They had three children, Wayne Stokes (Julie), Melissa Stokes, and baby boy Quinton Stokes. The pride and joys of his life were his grandkids, Brittney Joplin (Darin), Courtney Powell (Casey), Sophie and Savannah Stokes, and Olivia Powell. Bill was known for his love for family, his animals, and the outdoors. He could often be found sitting under a shade tree or loving on his dogs, especially his beloved buddy, Pug. A man of many trades who could fix anything that was broken, he spent countless hours in coveralls working on vehicles or maintaining his yard. He loved to take long rides through the country while listening to music. He was a one-of-a-kind butcher and meat manager who could make any grocery store meat counter look too notch. He lived a life full of love and laughter. He is survived by his wife (Vivian), kids, grandkids, and siblings Johnny Mack Stokes (Linda), Dee Stokes, and Gedelle Marshall. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws; baby boy, Quinton Stokes; daughter-in-law, Sharon Stokes; sisters, Pat Hall and Doris Windham; brothers, Buck Stokes and Bud Stokes. He was a quiet, calming presence who made the world better by being in it. He will be missed dearly, and we are thankful for our time with him. Our family would like to extend our thanks to everyone who has shown up over his sickness and over the last few days. A special thank you to his hospice nurse, Krista Martin -- you have been such a blessing.
