Mr. Billy Shaw

Billy Shaw was reunited with Aggie, the love of his life on Thursday, December 1, 2022, when he passed from this life to eternity. On this earth they celebrated 60 years together and built a beautiful family and life. Puddin and Betty are comforted with the thought that their parents are together again “shagging on the streets” of Heaven. A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Kelleytown Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Madaris and Rev. Gary Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. A private burial will be held in the church cemetery. Billy, born in Kelleytown, SC, was a son of the late Bennie Vance and Mary Louise Gardner Shaw. He was a dedicated worker, retiring from Sonoco in 1999 after 46 years. He was also a proud veteran of the US Air Force stationed at Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter SC as well as serving in the SC Army National Guard. He had many friends and it was rare to meet anyone that didn’t know Billy Shaw. He liked to have a good time and always had a funny story to share. Some true - some embellished- but all told in a fashion that was unique to Billy. His stories and gift for story-telling will live on through his family. His proudest accomplishment was the family that he and Aggie built: Puddin, Betty, Lori, Anna Rose, Maddy & Ethan. He loved and protected his family fiercely and would always end a visit or phone call with the words: “If you need me, I’ll come to you.” While many knew him as the “Head Hog”, his favorite thing to be called was Papa Big Bill. His children and grandchildren want Big Bill remembered as loyal, dedicated, proud, passionate, fun, protective of his family, a strong provider and truly larger than life. Surviving are his children, Billy “Puddin” Shaw, II (Lori) of Hartsville; Betty “Tootie” Shaw of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Anna Rose Shaw, Madalyn Louise Shaw, & Ethan William Shaw all of Hartsville, SC; twin sister Betty Merck of Columbia, SC. In addition to his wife, Aggie, he was preceded in death by his parents & brothers, Ben Shaw & Alex “Buz” Shaw. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home and Crematory are caring for the family.
