It is with deep sorrow that the Smith family announces the death of their beloved mother, Mrs. Arletrice Johnson Smith, 87. Mrs. Smith, the widow of Perry Orell Smith and John Timothy King Jr., entered into rest on Thursday, July 31, 2025. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 2 o'clock on Saturday, August 2, 2025, in Lakeview Baptist Church. The Rev. Ken Hughes will officiate, with burial to follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made in her honor to Agape Hospice, PO Box 37, Lexington, SC 29072, or Lakeview Baptist Church, 202 Lakeview Boulevard, Hartsville, SC 29550. Mrs. Smith was born on Monday, May 9, 1938, in Darlington County, SC. She is the daughter of the late Rodney James Johnson and the late Lillian Johnson. Letty was a 1955 graduate of Hartsville High School and went on to graduate from the Kershaw Hospital School of Nursing in 1959 as a Registered Nurse. She was employed as a nurse in the Bowen Clinic of Hartsville, fifteen years as a surgical nurse in Byerly Hospital Operation Room. She retired from Galey and Lord after twenty four years as a Certified Occupational Health Nurse. Letty was a faithful member of Lakeview Baptist Church for over fifty years and loved serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She enjoyed traveling with church groups and on family vacations. Among her most favorite things to do included going to her monthly outings with her beloved "5 Alive" neighbors who had all lived in the same neighborhood for over forty years. She is survived by her sons, Gregory Smith (Carol) of Hartsville, SC; daughter, Marsha Smith Van Bibber (Bruce) of Warner Robbins, GA; stepdaughter, Clara Brown (Bill) of Charlotte, NC; stepson Julian King (Mary Alice) of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Chad Gainey of Weston, OH, Anna Spinks (Matthew) of Amarillo, TX, Kayce (Lucia) Smith, Kyle (Brooke) Smith, Kari Boykin (Stephen) all of Hartsville, SC; step-grandchildren Heather Hanson (Dana) and Hogan VanSickle of Charlotte, NC, Merritt King, Elizabeth (Betts) King, both of Hartsville, SC; six great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; special nephew, Michael Webb (Sharon) of Hartsville, SC; brothers, R.B. Johnson, Ronnie Johnson; sisters, Anne Sprayberry, Elaine Reid. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Perry Orell Smith; second husband, John Timothy King, Jr; her son, Todd Smith; brother, Reid Johnson; sister, Pat Atkinson.
