It is with deep sorrow that the Harrison family announces the death of Mrs. Annie Gainey Harrison, 80. Mrs. Harrison entered into rest on Sunday, August 9, 2026. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. Mrs. Harrison was born on Wednesday, March 20th, 1946, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. She is the daughter of Gladd Gainey Sr and Ellen Gainey Weatherford. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 1 o'clock on Friday, August 14, 2026 in the chapel at Brown-Pennington-Atkins. Pastor Cody Howle will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at the funeral home. Annie was a dedicated and respected correctional officer who proudly served both the South Carolina Department of Corrections and the North Carolina Department of Corrections. Throughout her career, she demonstrated commitment, strength, and professionalism in service to others. Upon her retirement, Annie left behind a legacy of dedicated public service and a career of which she and her family could be proud. Beyond her professional life, Annie was known for her love of cooking and baking. She found great joy in preparing meals and baking cakes for her family and neighbors. Through her cooking, Annie had a special way of showing her love and bringing people together. Her generosity, warmth, and willingness to share with others will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Annie is survived by her son, Chad Starling of Patrick, South Carolina; her daughter, Cynthia Hassell of Morven, North Carolina; her siblings, Irene Williams and Francis Rivers, both of Patrick, South Carolina; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and the extended Starling family, whom she loved dearly as her own. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladd Gainey Sr. and Mary Ellen Weatherford; her husbands, Wiley Gill Starling and Daniel Harrison; her children Paul Starling, Rodney Starling and Windy Starling; her siblings, Gladd Gainey, Kay Derryberry, Johnny Lee Gainey and Wayne Gainey. Annie will be remembered for her strength, dedication, generosity, and the love she so freely gave to her family, friends, neighbors, and community. Her legacy of service, family, and love will continue to live on in those who knew and loved her.She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
