Amelia Anthony

Funeral services for Amelia Howard Anthony, 95, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2005 at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. The Very Rev. Ted Duvall will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday, June 3, 2005 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the home, 504 Quail Hollow Rd. Memorials may be made to the St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, Box 427, Hartsville, SC 29551 or the Hartsville Museum, Box 431, Hartsville, SC 29551. Mrs. Anthony, widow of Lawrence Kenneth Anthony, died Thursday, June 2, 2005. Born in Claussen, SC, she was a daughter of the late Fitz Lee Howard and Louisa Penn Ervin Howard. She graduated from Florence High School and attended Winthrop College. Amelia was the oldest living communicant of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church where she was active for many years in the life of the church. As a community volunteer, she participated in the Red Cross, the Community Concert Association, the Byerly Hospital Auxiliary, Spring Beauty Garden Club, St. David's Society, and was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of South Carolina. She will be remembered as an avid golfer, bridge player and beloved friend and cousin of many in Darlington and Florence Counties. Surviving are her three children: Lawrence Kenneth Anthony and his wife Anne of Summerland Key, F:, Penn Anthony Gregg and her husband Alexander of Georgetown, SC; Timothy Hopkins Anthony and his wife Penny of Hartsville, SC. Mrs. Anthony is survived by nine devoted grandchildren and spouses: Julian Anthony and Sarah of Dallas, TX; Amelia Anthony Logan and Bill of Dallas, TX; Philip Anthony of Deland, FL; Joseph Lawton, III, M. D. and Coles of Columbia, SC; Todd Anthony of Hartsville, SC; Kenneth Anthony and Sissy of Salisbury, NC; Richard Anthony and Terrie of Hartsville, SC; Ben Anthony and Abby of Lugoff, SC; Mary Penn Anthony Joyce and Joel of Winston-Salem, NC; fifteen great-grandchildren.
