Mrs. Alice Simmons Hall

Mrs. Alice Simmons Hall, 90, the widow of Billie Joseph Hall, passed away peacefully at her home on November 9, 2025, and entered her Heavenly Home. The Directors of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 2:00 o'clock on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in The Chapel of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home. The Rev. Ann Chavis will officiate, with burial to follow, in the Lucknow Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and other times at the home of Jeanne Gardner, 100 Hubb Kelley Road, Cassatt, SC. Mrs. Hall was born on April 8, 1935, in Kershaw County, SC. She was the daughter of the late Louis Simmons and the late Nina Freeman Simmons. She married the love of her life at a young age, and they soon relocated to Lee County, SC. Early on, Alice worked at Dixie Truck Stop, The Imperial Stak House, and was the first female police officer Bishopville ever had. After leaving the police force, she ran the Dixie Cafe, eventually closing the business to return home to the country, where her husband owned a store and needed her help. After closing the store business, she and her husband enjoyed many happy retirement years together with their children and grandchildren. Alice was a great cook and loved making meals and delivering to the needy. She was a member of Lucknow Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, and in her latter years, she attended Mel's Chapel. She was loved by all, especially the children who grew up in the church. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends in the Lucknow Community. She is survived by her three children, Billie J. "Jeanne" Gardner (Charles) of Lucknow, SC, Joseph Len Hall of Lucknow, SC, Doris J. Bryant of Lucknow, SC, and her dearly loved foster daughter, Charlene Hinson (Earl) of Elgin, SC; grandchildren, Eddie Gardner (Tracy) of Manning, SC, Will Gardner (Bonnie) of Lucknow, SC, Matthew Gardner of Lucknow, SC, Christy Hall of Bishopville, SC, Candy Hall of Bishopville, SC, and Brandy McKenzie (Barry) of Bishopville, SC. She also had numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. In addition to her late husband, Billie J. Hall, she was preceded in death by her parents, Louis E. Simmons and Nina Freeman Stephens; stepfather, Plummer E. Stephens; brothers, Louis Simmons Jr., and Thomas Mill Simmons; and sisters, Emily Akers, Mable, and Jessie Bell Simmons.
